The Gulf Coast region’s economic outlook is positive, with a diverse industry base providing valuable support for the state and national economies. that assessment is based on a study issued by texas comptroller susan combs. the report provides economic information on the 13-county houston region that includes both liberty and chambers counties. comptroller combs said employment in the 13 counties grew 11 percent from 2004 through 2009, and JOBS ARE EXPECTED to increase 2.6 percent a year through 2014. the gulf coast region provided 2.6 million jobs last year, nearly one quarter of all employment in texas. the houston-area economy is among the world’s largest with a gross product of $435.9 billion in 2009. houston alone is the world’s 25th largest economy just behind norway. this economic study is the eighth in a series susan combs is producing titled "texas in focus". part of the research looked at the devastating affects of hurricane ike back in the fall of 2008. the texas comptroller said the Gulf Coast region has shown an economic resilience even surpassing the rest of Texas for quarterly sales when the state entered the national recession. Because the massive storm "ike" was among the most destructive to ever hit the Gulf Coast, susan combs said local governments in the region expected significant reductions in business activity. however, sales tax revenue remained strong and even outpaced previous quarterly and seasonal growth, thanks in part to the infusion of relief funding and workers. summing up the latest texas in focus REPORT, commissioner combs said The Gulf Coast region has an economic strength and diversity that continues to outpace the state as a whole. the full report can be found on the comptroller’s WEBSITE www.window.state.tx.us. lady panthers vs west hardin news story 03.25.10 the liberty lady panthers softball team shut out the lady oilers of west hardin 9-0 tuesday. liberty’s starting pitcher taylor kaderli notched six strikeouts in three innings on the mound while allowing no hits. then, in three innings of relief, KATHERINE mcadams allowed just one hit and added another 7 strikeouts. offensively, mcadams had two doubles on four trips to the plate, scoring twice and knocking in two runs. haili beam was 2 for 3 with an r.b.i. nikki cook also had two hits and scored once. other lady panthers scoring runs were allsion meche, kirby taylor, ariana potetz, and dani sicotte. again, the liberty girls SOFTBALL TEAM shut out the west hardin lady oilers 9-0 on tuesday in non-district action. now, the liberty lady panthers will travel to huffman friday night. that district game starts at 7.
