we have reported the liberty MUNICIPAL library must close AGAIN for about three weeks as part of the expansion and renovation project under way at the GERALDINE d. humphrey’s cultural center. the uncertainty was when WILL THAT HAPPEN. now, library director dana (donna) ABSHIER says BEGINNING MARCH 4 THE library will BE CLOSED FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS. HOWEVER, THE LIBERTY DIRECTOR ALSO SAID THEY WILL CLOSE THIS FRIDAY FOR ONE DAY OF WORK.

DANA ABSHIER SAID THE LONGER CLOSING WILL BEGIN NEXT THURSDAY, MARCH 4, WHEN THE LIBERTY LIBRARY SHUTS DOWN FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS OF TRANSITION WORK.

WHEN THAT WORK IS FINISHED, THE LIBRARY WILL REOPEN IN THE NEW SECTION WHILE RENOVATION WORK THEN TAKES PLACE SIMULTANEOUSLY in the OLDER AREA.

the LIBERTY LIBRARY DIRECTOR SAID ONCE THAT CONSTRUCTION WORK IS COMPLETE, THERE WILL BE STILL ANOTHER SHORT CLOSING – LIKELY IN LATE APRIL - TO MOVE SHELVING AND FURNISH THE FACILITY.

the ongoing expansion project will double the size of the Humphreys Cultural Center. the work will enlarge the Liberty Municipal Library by 8,035 square feet on the first floor and 3,320 square feet on the second floor. an elevator is ALSO being added. IN ADDITION, THEY are adding 3,410 square feet of storage area to the Humphreys-Burson Theatre, which is also getting a makeover. again, LIBERTY MUNICIPAL LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED FOR ONE DAY THIS FRIDAY. THEN, THE LIBRARY SHUTS DOWN FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS BEGINNING NEXT THURSDAY, MARCH 4. liberty library director dana ABSHIRE encourages patrons to stock up on books before NEXT WEEK’S temporary closure so they will have plenty of reading material for thAT ESTIMATED three-week period. for information, call the liberty library at 936-336-8901.
