local walker 02.23.10 Beth Robertson of Dayton has joined with thousands of other women and men across the nation to raise funds and awareness to help defeat breast cancer. the longtime dayton resident is preparing to PARTICIPATE in the upcoming ‘Avon Walk houston’ for Breast Cancer. this non-competitive event offers the option of completing a marathon – which is 26.2 miles - or a marathon and a half totaling 39.3 miles. Beth Robertson said she was inspired to take part in Avon Walk Houston after her 16-year-old daughter went through breast cancer testing. "audio" Carol Kurzig, President of the Avon Foundation for Women, said Thanks to thousands of people like Beth Robertson, they are able to save lives by providing significant funds for vital breast cancer research. the group also provides access to care, screening, support services, and education. as part of her fund-raising efforts, beth robertson will hold a special event on march 6. "audio" Avon Walk Houston is one of nine weekend walks taking place in 2010. Each participating walker is required to raise at least $1,800 in donations and undertake months of training to prepare for their event. This group is united by a shared desire to eradicate breast cancer and help those touched by the disease. Beth Robertson will start her Walk weekend with an opening ceremony on april 10 and then spend most of the day walking. the dayton resident will be walking 39.3 miles in memory of Anne Marriott and in tribute to Brittany Robertson. again, she will hold a fund-raising event on saturday, march 6, at tooley’s on state highway 321. it begins at 3 p.m. and will continue until the last person leaves. folks can also contribute by going to www.avonwalk.org. just click on donate to a walker and then type in her full name – elizabeth robertson. |
