weekend recap 02.22.10 kshn reported over the weekend that two people have been arrested for the FEBRUARY 9 armed ROBBERY of the Texas Coastal Community Federal Credit Union in Winnie. chambers county sheriff joe larive said information was received from Louisiana indicating Lake Charles resident Jennifer Sykes Devillier was responsible for the winnie bank crime. she was also wanted in Louisiana on two counts of armed robbery and was believed to be in the Houston area. that Information also indicated her husband, Edwin Devillier, was the get-away driver in the Winnie case. according to sheriff larive, both have been arrested and confessed to their INVOLVEMENT. Jennifer Devillier is being held without bond in the Chambers County jail for the Winnie crime along with the two Louisiana robberies. Edwin Devillier is being held without bond. he is in the Harris County jail for all three robberies. also over the weekend, kshn reported the liberty county sheriff’s department has issued a RESPONSE to the THURSDAY cleveland advocate NEWSPAPER ARTICLE that offered details of an investigation by the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms of sheriff’s captain harry kelley. the advocate report said captain kelley is suspected in the disappearance of as many as 500 CONTRABAND FIREARMS from the cleveland police evidence room back when he and henry patterson, now liberty county sheriff, worked there. that newspapwer article also took the sheriff’s DEPARTMENT to task for allowing harry kelley to remain on duty. in REsPONSE, the sheriff’s spokesman - steve green - said state law STRICTLY prohibits the sheriff’s department from taking DISCIPLINARY action of any kind against captain kelley until a charge, INDICTMENT or written complaint has been filed against him. so far that has not happened. steve green also said the advocate newspaper’s claim that calls to sheriff patterson for COMMENT were not returned is untrue and CRITICIZED the paper for engaging in unfair and irresponsible journalism. in another weekend report, four liberty high school students had the chance to improve their leadership and communications skills recently. conner cumbie, kirby taylor, brody zalesak, and rachell dugger each attended the rotary youth leadership awards. ryla is an intensive weekend training program that enables young people to debate issues of professional responsibility, team work and human relations as well as improve leadership and communications skills. the liberty rotary club sponsored the four high school juniors to attend the camp. n tuesday, the four l.h.s. students attended the rotary club luncheon to thank liberty rotarians for sending them to ryla and to tell them about their experiences. |
